Solution for Higher Education System in India

Declining standards of Higher Education System in India has become such a big problem that we can spend hours discussing over it. However, government can bring significant changes by following very simple guidelines:

  1. Pay the teachers on the basis of their performance.
  2. Increase interaction between students of different institutions.
  3. Give freedom to students to complain against incompetent teachers. It would be better if they are given freedom to forward their complaints to the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
  4. There are many teachers who are highly competent but they continuously suffer because of their incompetent colleagues. Government of India must encourage and award teachers to report against their incompetent colleagues.
  5. In should be made adequately clear to the teaching community that they can loose their jobs if they don’t meet the prevailing standards of subject expertise.
  6. Students must be encouraged improve their communication skills. Those who are not good at communication should not be allowed to get admission in higher level courses.
  7. Student who engages in unfair practices must be immediately punished. Besides, that teacher must be encouraged to report against students whom they find a misfit for high level course.
  8. The cost of study in several government rung institutions and universities is very low. There was a time when people used to sell their lands to get their sons complete their university studies. However, at present the cost is so low that even non serious students take admission in these institutions / universities.
