Higher Education System in India, Brief Review

Higher Education System in India has seen serious decline in last few decades. The most awkward feature of Indian higher education is lack of quality institutes which are full of incompetent teachers. These institutes most of which are getting direct or indirect aid from government are producing degree holders whose skills are far below the skills of graduates of three or four decades back. Some of the reasons of the low standards in Indian Higher Education are following:

  1. There has been unnecessary haste in starting new universities / institutions without consideration of quality.
  2. The present model of public private partnership is complete failure and most of the private players have got only one intention – to make money at the cost of future of their own students.
  3. Teachers, in almost all the states especially those who are working in government aided institutions are more interested in getting salary increments and extension of retirement age. These teachers, who hold posts of lecturers, readers and professors often, engage in strikes to get their unfair demands fulfilled.
  4. Students are not serious about their degree and most of them end up making careers in areas which are completely detached from their academic studies.
  5. Most of the time teachers are arrogant and ignorant and they don’t encourage open communication with the students. That’s why; despite of completing Graduation / Post Graduation most of the students lack in professional communication skills. No need to elaborate that this is the only prominent reason because of which most of our youths struggle to get a decent job.
