UPSC or Union Public Service Commission conducts examination for the selection of civil servants in India. This year the examination took place on 17th of May 2009. Number of candidates appearing the examination was around two times the number of candidates appeared in the same examination in the year 2008. However, the good news is that the number of seats are also much higher and candidates for this much coveted exam must not loose heart as the chances of getting call for the mains examination are somehow same and much change in the cut off marks is not expected. Most of the time the results of the preliminary examinations of  Civil Services are out by the second week of August.

So, naturally the candidates are loosing patience as the first week of the August has started and still there is not any announcement on the results. To be frank the impatience is worth after all so many candidates toil day and night for getting into the coveted job and the first step towards entering these services is passing out the preliminary examinations. There are many speculations going around that this year the cut off marks might go down, undoubtedly some change in cut off marks is always expected. But the people who are spreading such kind of consolatory rumors for the candidates who didn’t performed well in the examinations are unaware of the fact that discussing over the cut off marks is not worth as till date UPSC never declared any sort of information on the official cut off marks.

However, we have got word of consolation for candidates who are scared about bad performance in the preliminary examination. There are instances when people loose complete hope in their life after failure in the high level competitive examinations, we have got only one advice, simply go and check the records of all the Members of Parliaments. How many of them are really capable of getting a job through UPSC? To be frank hardly ten percent of them might be having the prowess to succeed in the toughest exam of the country. Yet, they all are having enough constitutional power to make more effective changes in the country in just five years  than the senior most IAS officer can dream of  to achieve in his entire career. But unfortunately most of the MPs in the parliament desist from using their power effectively. So if you fail in the exam don’t loose your heart try for better prospects, join politics and with the wisdom that you imbibed during your preparation you can bring in more effective changes than most of the MPs who are either scared or unwilling to use the mandate of citizens effectively.
