Hi Deep,
As far as sections are concerned try to score above 40 percent in all the sections. Although, SSC has never disclosed any sectional cut off marks. As far as getting calls for various posts are concerned the cut off marks vary according to your choices. However, if you want to get call for Assistant Grade or other top preferred jobs like Income Tax Inspector or CBI; you must try to score in the range of 65 percent marks in the preliminary examination.
As far as books are concerned you may use the book of Tyra for numerical aptitude or maths and for reasoning go for R K Agrawal. The level of General Studies is not very deep or high and most of the questions are confined to 10th level and current events.
As far as English is concerned once again working on grammar, synonyms, antonyms, vocabulary can be a real help for you. It would be better if you practice with a question bank and sample papers.

Dear sir ,
I will appear combined graduate level exam held on 2012. Since I will appear for the first time, I wish to know the following:

1) What will be the likely cut off marks for general category? 2) How many candidates might have applied in the exam? 3) Does SSC fix sectional cut offs? 4) Is the marks of preliminary exam taken into consideration while finalizing the final result? 5) Please also suggest some good books for the pre and main exam to be held in 2012.

According to your notification my Physical Efficiency Test (PET)have started from 6th of January 2012.But I am still facing some problem to take my admit card.Due to some problem i am unable to take my admit card so i am not sure that when will my PET is take place.
