The landlines are loosing their old charm considering the fact that most of the people are having their own personal mobile, there are not many takers for landlines which are considered join possession of a family. Landlines have mostly lost the subscribers from residential segment. The landline or wireline  subscriber base declined from 37.06 Million in December-2009 to 36.76 Million at  the end of January-2010. BSNL/MTNL, two PSU operators hold 84.96% of the Wireline market share. However, they lost 0.36 Million subscribers in the month of  January-2010. Overall Wireline teledensity is 3.13. Bharti with 8.2 % share in the market and Reliance with 3.18 % share in the market are other major players.
